So is it lame

to make microscope slide ornaments as little gifty things?  I went to Stamp Antonio on Friday, and scooped up a bunch of  Ranger Memory Glass slides and metal frames, thinking that I’d make a bunch of ornaments for my aunts and uncles.  I went to another store and got these great little kraft paper-covered boxes.  I went home and printed out a bunch of old pictures of my paternal grandparents, all set to put these ornaments together . . . and then my husband asked, “Why?”

He told me (wisely?) that there are very few people that would appreciate such a gesture, and that the “bring a unisex gift that cost about $20 so we can draw numbers and trade presents” crowd probably are not the right people for my idea.  He told me that I should think about buying a unisex gift, and wrapping it up, then adding the ornaments as package tie-ons.  I’m kinda brokenhearted over this. I had images in my head of family members getting all choked up over the beautifully presented heirloom ornaments.

There went that idea.  Now I have to head off to Target and pick up some flashlights or a cake pedestal or something equally mundane.
