August is a big month for birthdays!

My mom, Mike’s mom, my brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, a niece and various cousins and friends celebrate birthdays this month. We’re having a big birthday bash here on Saturday, and have been busy preparing for it. I had a little time to create this, though. Yeah, I know. . . another banner! This one is special (not that the other wasn’t, of course)! Feliz is Spanish for happy, and a friend of ours is celebrating a milestone birthday this weekend, and I hope it’s just that. Happy. I made this to have hung over her desk at work. I hope she likes it!

Be still my heart, right? Look at all of those Primas and rhinestone brads and ribbons! Why not use tons of stuff I have more of to make someone happy, right? Anyway. . . .here are the creative details for the banner.

I used two sheets of My Mind’s Eye Tres Jolie paper to create the pennants. The polkadots and stripes reverse to the solids that you see as scallops on top of each pennant. I created the scallops with the slit punch (using the scraps left over from cutting the pennants!), and then adhered a scalloped strip to each pennant.

Once the glue was dry, I zigzag stitched the ribbon to each pennant, leaving nice long ribbon tails on each side. Can you believe I used two ribbons? My neighbor was amazed at how much ribbon I’ve actually used lately, and so am I! (I guess it’s only right since I received another three or four rolls today. Yikes! I need to make more stuff!) The wide green organdy is very shimmery and came from a local wholesale florist (I think I bought 100 yards for maybe $4!), and the banana stitched ribbon is from Michael’s. There is also guava grosgrain from Fabric Barn tied at the ends for more color.

Chipboard letters are from Stampin’ Up! and were painted, and then Xyron’d, then glittered with Dazzling Diamonds. I adhered the letters to each pennant, and then went to town with the Primas (these and these) and rhinestone brads. Stickles in Fruit Punch outline each letter. I dotted each scallop with Lime Stickles, and then added stripes and accents to the dots with Icicle Stickles.

Whew!  All in all it took a couple of hours to do this, start to finish, but it didn’t seem like it at all.  Make one of your own today!
