Everyone knows and loves her, right? Right! Well, this lady has a really special place in my heart.
Beate and I met through Stampin’ Discuss ages ago (If you want to get sappy, read this on her blog. Made me all verklempt, it did!), and became fast friends. It’s been wild to get to know someone and spend much time together in person and on the phone . . . all because you share a hobby. I know you guys know how that is!
Anyway, one of my fondest memories from the early part of our friendship is of a MOPS meeting at a local church. Beate was asked to provide a craft for the gathering, and I took the morning off of work to help her, and got stuck at the table helping the ladies make one sheet boxes. That was probably the longest morning of my life! I think she felt like she owed me for that experience, ’cause when her SU! business took off and she was close to earning the incentive cruise, she said she’d like to take me as her guest! I couldn’t believe it (even knowing her husband and why he didn’t want to go!), and then it happened. . . she earned the cruise, and we started making plans and shopping (naturally) for Mexico. Next thing we knew, we were at the airport and headed to California to hop on a ship and visit some beautiful beaches and hang out with some old and new friends.
When Beate emailed this weekend’s sketch to me, I immediately thought of this picture. It’s one of my favorites from the cruise, and I had to scrapbook it (’cause someone needs to scrapbook those pictures, right?) using her sketch. The stuff I used is pretty obvious so post or email if you have questions!
The picture was taken at this theater on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, our first port of call. I parasailed, we went into a little store and bought raspas (shaved ice with yummy fruity syrup), and then took a trolley to the beach and just chilled out for a while before we had lunch and went back to the ship. It was an amazing day, and not just ’cause I was happy to be off of the ship!
One of these days, I’ll have to scrapbook this picture, and the big story behind that day in Cabo San Lucas, and why Beate is SO happy in this picture. . .
Nothing like a big bacon cheeseburger and fries at Cabo Wabo Cantina after whale watching and drifting in the Pacific Ocean for hours with very slim hopes of being rescued before the cruise ship leaves for home . . . and nothing like being rescued by a one armed man, and having such a fantabulous friend to share the experience with. Good times, good times (<– don’t click if you’re easily offended. It’s a link to the SNL Sketch with Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy. . now you know what makes me and Beate laugh!).
THANK YOU for a great sketch, and for all the good times, my friend. I can’t wait till you come home again, this time to STAY!!

I am sitting here in tears. Ditto to you. Love ya in SKW way! You are the best.
LOVE the page. I wish I could scrapbook those pictures like you do! LOL
What an awesome post! That scrapbook page is priceless. . .what a wonderful memory!
Great scrapbook page, the colors are great with that picture! I’m dying to hear more of your adventure…drifting for hours…rescued by a one arm man…?! And that clip was hilarious, maybe Alec’s best work!
Gota love those fun times hey? Isn’t it wonderful to have that one very special friend in your life? You two are good for each other! Are you putting in a bulk order for some of those balls this holiday season? If so, count me in!
Beatiful page, Jenn! I *love* your Beate Jenn adventure stories. I agree with Gail, you 2 were made for each other….Hmmmm, why was Beate so happy? let’s see, was it:
10. her free cruise stamps had finally arrived on her pillow
9. the port shopping was especially incredible that day
8. her tan was shaping up nicely for early summer envy of all her friends
7. she got her picture taken with Shelli on the promenade deck that morning
6. she got to talk to Rick on the phone when she got to port that day
5. she didn’t have to hold ‘motion sick Jenn’s hair that morning
4. did you say, burger and fries????
3. someone else was doing the cabin service this week relieving Beate of her rigorous cleaning schedule
2. she had just seen the gorgeous Bud Basics display board on the ship
and the #1 reason Beate might be smiling so big…..
1. hmmmmm, did someone say ‘happy hour’?
I am sitting here laughing my butt off at the SNL sketch. That show used to be sooo good, what happened to it?? Anyway, I don’t understand, did Beate move again?? Also. tell us about the one-armed man rescue–that intrigues me!!
OMG, I am cracking up at the SNL skit. I don’t know how they keep a straight face. I’d be rolling on the floor. Must be something about Cabo and their ocean vessels … DH and I took that same cruise a few years ago and decided on the glass bottom boat. We’re talking, leaky glass …. and tons of water in the boat. Very scary going through that rock archway! LOL. Yikes.
What great pictures and memories to go with them. You are so lucky to have such a fabulous friend! I don’t think my husband would talk to me again if I earned the cruise and then didn’t take him. LOL!
That was a hilarious sketch.
Great story, great use of the sketch!
I remember that cruise story!!!! I’d be happy too after getting rescued, and to think you had the VP’s undivided attention for how long? I agree with everyone else, you two were just made for each other.
WONDERFUL photos and FABULOUS page. You and Beate are both AWESOME women with a great sense of humor, and sooooooooo much talent!! I love the SNL skit, I can’t wait for my DH to get home so I can share it with him, I can just hear him howling now. TFS and the huge laughs.
Just SWEET!
Just wonderful! Very sweet.
How did they NOT lose it when they filmed that skit?!
You guys are so lucky to have each other, and I’m know that I’m pretty lucky to have met and spent time with both of you. Hugs!
Awwww, too sweet! Nothing like a best friend and a little bit of adventure!
Hugs,
Gina K.
Wonderful page…and great story. Thanks also for the link because that was TOOOO funny!!! And I really needed a good laugh today!!
So sweet!
That was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh! Everything on your blog is amazing. I’m sure glad that I clicked on the link from Beate’s blog!
Loved this post. What a great story. Very heart warming..
Thanks for sharing your beautiful page and story! You two have a one-of-a-kind friendship…so very special!! I love the burger pic too!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! No one can capture the heart of sweet memories on pages the way you do, Jenn … no one. Even though I know without a doubt that I was “not” on that cruise, I have the feeling and the sweet “high” from sharing such a delight with a treatsured friend now. (((And now … why was Beate so stinkin’ happy in that pic?!?))) *grin*

Thank you for sharing this great story.
You need to blog that day, Jenn. As much as I love hanging out with you guys, I am SOOO glad that Mariann and I decided to go to the beach that day instead of going boating with you guys. Although I wouldn’t have minded getting rescued by that hunky Australian guy…CRIKEY!
