Killing two (maybe three) birds with one stone

wsc73blogb.jpg

The other afternoon, the kids and I set out to ride some roller coasters at Six Flags, only to get there and find that the park was closed. Boo! Hiss!  Since I’m such a great mom, I took the kids to a theme park for crafty moms . . . the local scrapbook store!  I was looking for some Girl Friday paper, and bought several different patterns (as well as a few other things!), and when I got started on this week’s sketch (hosted by the lovely Cambria), I reached for the Girl Friday paper first. Cute and fun, isn’t it?  I found some cardstock that coordinated with the stripes, cut the little bracket shapes with my Slice, the layered squares with my paper trimmer, the scallops with my Threading Water punch and put it all together.  Now, the two birds, one stone thing? Thursday’s Ways to Use It challenge was to incorporate stickers. I went through my box o’stickers and found these from Jolee’s (felt flowers) and the sentiment from Scenic Route and slapped a bunch over everything. And that was that!  Two challenges, one card!

Check out what Beate, Cami, Charmaine, Laurie (welcome back, friend!), Lori, Mary Jo and Sharon have created with this sketch, and then upload your own over at Splitcoast!   You can see everyone else’s here in the WSC73 gallery.

Speaking of Splitcoast and a third unfortunate bird, the 20th of the month means a Dirty Dozen Reunion challenge – and the one Holly posted was a doozy.  We were to go through our gallery and re-do one of our first uploads. Since I uploaded scrapbook pages first, I looked for my first card, and this was it:

Yikes! It’s cute, and I loved the bright and happy colors, but I’d definitely do things a little differently today. And I did!

Like add some patterned paper instead of stamping, make the frame smaller than the whole card (and add more interest with scallops, and then add a little something to the corner.  Today’s card didn’t take a whole lot of time to put together, and I’m really happy with the pimped version of the card. Definitely more ME now!

I might be back in a little bit to swap out thse pictures. . . they were taken at 2 am or so, and look a leeeetle bit fuzzy, LOL!

Love your sketch card, Jenn — those felt flower stickers are wonderful, great scrappy card! My remake card was plain cardstock, too (no designer paper) — nice to see evolution, eh?!!

I love your challenge card–the bright cheery colors and those fun felt flowers–perfect! It’s also really fun to see your do over card. It’s nice to look back and see progress and realize that even the rockstars had to start somewhere! 🙂

Love the theme park for crafty moms. Will have to remember that. My kids are awful in craft stores. Michael’s had a small fire around Christmas on the inside with the tree getting overloaded – imagine that! Kids were elated!! Terrible. Your cards are fabulous and so are you.
