Flower

This is Texas in the springtime.

Driving home down back country roads with the windows rolled down. Enjoying the smell of clean, fresh air. Kids waving “hi” to cute heifers. Loving the wildflowers and green fields.

Fields of brilliant bluebonnets, even though there are fewer and fewer fields ’round these parts every year. Kids posing happily for paparrazi mom in said bluebonnets.

And one of my favorites for dinner?

Rudy’s has the BEST BBQ (or bar-b-que depending on where you’re from!). I love that you can stop and fill up the gas tank as well as your belly! The brisket and sausage are favorites, and we always get huge sides of their creamed corn and creamy potato salad. The cole slaw is delicious, and so are the desserts. Oh, and the turkey, too! I love it all, can you tell? You walk up and smell everything and sometimes end up with smoke in your eyes, ’cause you’re ordering right there by the pit where it’s being cooked! Talk about fresh. They serve it all on waxed paper, with fresh Mrs. Bairds bread and their wonderful spicy Sause (That’s the way you spell it. Order yours online – it’s kinda pricy, but soooo wondermous!). Drinks are all in big galvanized tin buckets, and I always choose a Big Red in a glass bottle before heading out to sit outside and enjoy the meal. Just tastes better that way, I think!

Anyway, just wanted to share a few things that I love about Texas springs. What’s spring like ’round your neck of the woods? If y’all want to share a link, I’m sure my kids would love to see what it’s like in March in other parts of the world!

Bluebonnets? Where? Up here in Austin ;), they are few and far between. Maybe it’s still early. I need to get those boys out there. AND RUDY’S, OMG!! – We have Rudy’s breakfast tacos EVERY weekend! And we get the super huge Coca-colas imported from Mexico! AWESOME! I knew I liked your taste :D.

My Texas spring is pretty much the same as yours! 😉 Great pics, Jenn — I don’t think the ‘bonnets are blooming here yet though. Will have to check this weekend.

I miss TX!!! What great pictures. Springtime in Oregon is mostly rainy with a few clear days. The daffodils are blooming and soon the tulips will be too. I will take some pictures this weekend and share them.

Great pics Jen! I’m so jealous. I’ve lived in Texas for 13 years and have NEVER seen a field of bluebonnets. They apparently don’t grow in West Texas. But boy you should see our tumbleweed!!

Love the pics of the kids amongst the Bluebonnets! Absolutely gorgeous! We still have to wait a little bit for all the Wildflowers to start blooming here in CO, but signs of spring are starting to pop-up all over.

    TFS!

That’s one of my favorite things about Texas. I love the fields of wildflowers…especially the bluebonnets. Too bad I live in Maryland now. We have gorgeous springs here, too, but no bluebonnets. Thanks for sharing.

Spring? What’s that hahahaha. Where I am (Chino Hills, CA – southern Calif.) it seems we go from what they call winter (like 3 days of rain LOL) to blazing hot summer. Last summer we had one day that was 112 at 5:00pm. No joking. Thank God it only lasted a day or 2. I almost died. Last week we had temps into the low 90’s, then this week we’re back into the 70’s which is nice.

I spent some time in San Antonio and loved to be there. Hope to get back there someday. Your children are handsome/ beautiful and you should be proud of them. Thanks for showing us Texas in the spring. Not very pretty here in PA. Still some snow on the ground, raining, droopy. So enjoy!!! Mo

I so wish I could see these beautiful flowers in person. I have loved pictures of them since I was a child. Amazing colors! Your kids are precious! I wish mine loved picture taking as much as your children do. ( I now pay mine or get someone else to sneek a picture for me)

Jen – love the pictures of the bluebonnets. I miss those Texas flowers! My mom just told me I could probably grown them here in NC. I have pictures of my kids (when they were young) in the bluebonnets too, but don’t think they look as happy as yours. I remember they were grumbling all the way!! Plus my son just squatted so he looks like he is doing something else!! Oh, fond memories!

Oh, those fields looks so wonderful!! I kept saying to DH, why do we have to live where it snows so much after I saw your pictures!! (Calgary, Alberta). Then he mentioned how hot Texas gets in the summer. That would kill me! So I will have to make a trip to Texas to enjoy it in the springtime. Great pictures!
